About Big Brothers Big Sisters

Our Mission
The Big Brothers Big Sisters Mission is to provide children facing adversity with strong and enduring, professionally supported one-to-one relationships that change their lives for the better, forever.
What we Do
BBBS creates and supports strong and caring relationships between an adult volunteer and a child. Our unique model of one-to-one mentoring has a direct and lasting effect on the lives of those who need us most, including those living in single-parent homes, growing up in poverty and coping with parental incarceration. Making and supporting these relationships, and performing all the background work involved with them, is possible because of donations from people like you.
Our Impact
In 2012, Central Texas volunteers provided 90,000 hours of mentoring to 1,500 Little Brothers and Sisters! Even more impressively, last year more than 97 percent of Central Texas "Littles" stayed in school, improved their grades and avoided early parenting. The Central Texas agency is ranked in the top 5 percent in the nation for program quality (out of nearly 400 BBBS agencies).

This year's theme:
Cowboys vs Zombies

The good, the bad and the zombies are coming to Highland Lanes February 28 - March 2, 2014. You'll need true grit to go Walker or Wrangler for the best bowling party this side of town.

History of Bowl for Kids

Trudy's Bowl for Kids (BFK) is one of the signature annual fundraiser for Big Brothers Big Sisters (BBBS) and it's all thanks to our friends! BFK is an annual bowl-a-thon where participants fundraise and then enjoy a themed bowling party. Because of BFK, more Bigs and Littles can be paired up and more friendships can begin.

BBBS of America launched the fundraiser in the early 1980s, with several of the 350 nationwide agencies participating. Locally, BBBS of Central Texas launched its first event in 1983. We began with one bowling center and two bowling sessions. Today, the event spans an entire weekend and includes nearly 1,000 participants, with most of them forming teams through their company or organization.
